Quality

ˈkwä-lə-tē

Quality (ˈkwä-lə-tē.)

The measure of excellence or superiority in characteristics or features that fulfill or exceed expectations or standards.

My wife likes expensive candles.

"How much are they?" I’m not quite sure, but what I do know is the smell, aesthetic, and mood that these candles bring her represent the quality of candle that she is choosing to buy.

Recently, another candle showed up with a special card included that changed my own perspective of quality. I keep this card at my desk so that every time I sit, it stays with me and re-frames my approach to whatever I am doing.

“QUALITY, QUALITY, QUALITY: NEVER WAVER FROM IT, EVEN WHEN YOU DON’T SEE HOW YOU CAN AFFORD TO KEEP IT UP. WHEN YOU COMPROMISE, YOU BECOME A COMMODITY AND THEN YOU DIE.”

-G. Hirshberg

Above all else, whether for work or a passion or a relationship, the only real meaningful differentiator is quality. Such a simple directive that can drastically affect the type of work that we do, the relationships that we have, and the life that we live.

My wife likes quality candles.
